Original Giotto Detail from painting in Duomo Museum
Traveling a day ahead of the residency, I landed in Florence. I was in search of Giotto. To begin a series of studies on the robes of Giotto, as Mark Rothko had done, so would I. I found a beautiful Giotto painting in the little visited museum of the Duomo, behind the great Duomo of Florence. I spent time with the robes, red rich with color, and grace, as he painted them with love and care. I sot over twenty images of the one painting and set stract these images in small studies. The result is the collection you see here.
